Getting closer… there’s fewer visible seams now, but it still looks kind of tiley, especially in the big empty spaces near the middle. It’s hard to tell just how, sometimes, but it’s clearly too regular. One of the things on my to-do list is to create a tool to automatically scramble similar-looking tiles with the same collision type, which will hopefully be a good way to make uniform areas like this look interesting, but I don’t know how efficient that would be.
Even if the tileset isn’t finished, it’s conceptually complete now: The light tiles are lighted in basically the right way, the dark tiles are dark, the transitions are in place — so, I think the next thing to do is to copy this style back to the template, so for future tilesets I won’t have to do the guesswork and trial and error I’ve had to do here. I started doing that today, but it still looks pretty bad.
